About Charly Gutierrez

As a contemporary director with a Master’s degree in Film animation from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), Charly is attentive to the always changing movements on the aesthetic and cultural visual scene. The sophistication of his pieces reflect his taste for the cosmopolitan. He has a good eye thanks to his experience in graphic design and the arts. He also has an edge through his use of humor and irony. With a visual impact and an aesthetic surprise, Charly seems to constantly be winking at the audience, giving them something to read in between the lines.

In 2008 and 2009 Charly was awarded with the “El ojo de Iberoamérica” for best Uruguayan director.. He has also explored other forms of film and media such as his music videos “Ya no sé qué hacer conmigo” (selected for the Type in motion exposition, at the Zurich Museum of design in 2011, and winner of Best music video in the Graffiti Awards 2007) and “El hijo de Hernández” (Latin Grammy Award nominee 2010), both from popular local band El Cuarteto de Nos.
